I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. - Revelation 2:2-5 (NKJV)
“If there’s anything that catches people’s attention and causes them to sit up and take notice of what you’re saying or doing, it’s ENTHUSIASM! The word enthusiasm is derived from two Greek words: ‘En,’ which means IN, and ‘theos,’ which means GOD. So enthusiasm literally means ‘in God,’ or ‘God in us’! - Get excited about GOD!” - Pastor Monetta Cheek
“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
What, my friend, I am trying to get across to you is this: unless there is that excitement, that expectant hope continually flowing in you, you aren’t really experiencing the life of God that Jesus has provided by His death, burial, and resurrection.
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)
Notice what verse 2 says. It says that for the JOY that was set before Him. Jesus’ enthusiasm, His passion, His LOVE for us and what He was doing enabled Him to endure the Cross. When you are experiencing true, Scriptural hope, you won’t be disappointed. Why?
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. -Romans 5:5 (NKJV)
Hope does not disappoint BECAUSE the love of God has been poured out in our hearts. By faith, you took part in God’s life-giving wells of love. (Ephesians 2:8) And His love has made us alive!! (John 3:16)
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus - Ephesians 2:4-6 (NKJV)
God’s love has made us alive! Hallelujah! His love and peace endure forever! (Isaiah 54:9-10) Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:8) And so, because God’s love never fails, never gives up, never runs out - our hope, expectancy, doesn’t fail, never gives up, and never runs out! Glory to God! The Lord said to the Ephesian church (in Revelation 2) that they had it all together! But verse 4 tells us that the only thing He had against them was they had left their first love. They had lost their enthusiasm about Him. Not about the church and missions, and all that. But they had left their love with Him. We love because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
He then, in verse 5, told them to repent. Whaaaat? He meant acknowledge, “Hey Chiefy, something needs to change.” They couldn’t be the effective “superpower” in the church without the passion and hunger for God.
You’ve got 10 seconds to get enthusiastic! Your excitement is the flame that consumes you to where all anyone can see is God! See His love! His power! To where our lives are but a reflection of His blessing, abundance, power, and grace! This is the life Jesus came to give us! (John 10:10) And that’s the light that the darkness cannot comprehend. (John 1:5)
